Pirates strike early in heavy loss

The Cash Converters West Coast Pirates have succumbed to another loss at Ken Allen Field, this time falling to the visiting Newcastle Knights by 56 points.

Knights’ Centre Fletcher Myers opened the scoring for the visitors after just three minutes, with Jonah Pezet slotting home his first of eight conversions for the morning.

The home crowd would have something to cheer about minutes later though as winger Jared Therkelsen crossed after some great lead up play, however the youngster could not convert to tie things up.

The Knights would then pile on the tries to go into the break 26-4 and good value to power home in the second half.

And power home they did, with Jacob Davis leading the way with a double for the visitors and things went from bad to worse on 59 minutes for the Pirates as Tuakana Rangihaeata was sent to the sin bin.

The match ended 60-4 in favour of the Knights, who move into third and take on the undefeated Bulldogs next week at home.

The Pirates will now take on ninth-placed Penrith, who have just come off a 24-all draw against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles.
