Thousands of West Australians have made their way to the NRL Nines tournament this weekend despite the second day almost being washed out on a humid Saturday afternoon.
14,739 fans flocked to HBF park to see the North Queensland Cowboys hold off the fast finishing St George Illawarra dragons to snare their second small-sided title.
The win complements their win in the Auckland Nines tournament in 2014.
Instrumental was Lock Jason Taumololo, who called upon some of that form from 2014, with the 26-year-old a rock in the forward line for the Cowboys.
It was a great showing for WA Rugby League, who have been pushing for a team to be included in 2023.
A petition was being circulated over the weekend to get support for the West Coast Pirates bid for the NRL.
